TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Morocco has resumed accepting tourist visa confirmation letter applications from Taiwan passport holders after suspending the service in July, the foreign ministry said Monday.
CNA reported that the ministry said applications resumed on Sept. 21 after it received verbal confirmation from the Moroccan Embassy in Tokyo. Morocco has not formally announced the change, and the reopening currently applies only to tourists.
Taiwanese travel agency Lifetour said it also confirmed the change with the Moroccan Embassy in Tokyo. The agency has resumed helping Taiwan travelers apply for the confirmation letters needed for tourist visas.
Taiwan has not yet decided whether to resume accepting visa applications from Moroccan nationals. The foreign ministry said it would first confirm how the restored process works for Taiwan passport holders before reviewing its restrictions on Moroccan applicants.
Morocco instructed its diplomatic missions worldwide in July to stop accepting visa confirmation letter applications, affecting Taiwan passport holders seeking to visit the country. Taiwan responded by suspending visa applications from Moroccan nationals under the principle of reciprocity, except in specially approved cases.
