TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Memory controller maker Phison Electronics Corp. posted record monthly revenue in August as demand for AI infrastructure boosted demand for data storage.
August revenue reached NT$28.3 billion (US$893 million), up 377% year-on-year. Revenue for the first eight months totaled a record NT$164.293 billion, up 279% from a year earlier, according to LTN and Ettoday.
Memory controllers serve as the “brain” of flash storage devices, helping determine the performance and reliability of products such as solid-state drives (SSDs) and memory cards. They manage how data is stored, moved, and retrieved, while helping devices maintain performance over time, according to Pocket Securities.
As AI and cloud infrastructure expand, demand for faster and more reliable storage is also growing, particularly for enterprise systems and edge AI applications. Phison’s controller shipments reflected the trend.
Total controller shipments increased 10% in August from the previous month. Among them, PCIe SSD controller shipments increased 77%.
Phison is also expanding beyond its traditional role as a NAND storage controller supplier by developing solutions for edge AI infrastructure and applications. Unlike cloud-based AI systems that process data on remote servers, edge AI allows models to run directly on local devices, according to Digitimes.
Its Phison AI Data Platform has been adopted by organizations across Taiwan, including financial institutions, medical institutions, universities, and government agencies. Phison said it plans to bring its experience with AI deployments in Taiwan to international markets in its next stage of expansion.
