TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Starlux Airlines will raise its booking service charge from US$30 to US$33 (NT$1,046) per ticket starting Oct. 7, marking its second increase this year, CNA reported Monday.
Economic Daily News reported that the airline previously raised the fee from US$25 to US$30 in April.
Airlines collect booking service charges to cover costs associated with the global distribution systems used to process ticket reservations. China Airlines, EVA Air, Starlux, and Tigerair Taiwan all collect such fees when tickets are purchased.
Other Taiwanese airlines have also raised similar charges this year. Tigerair Taiwan increased its non-peak-period fee from NT$300 to NT$350 per passenger per flight segment starting Sept. 1.
The airline also raised its peak-period fee from NT$400 to NT$450 per passenger per segment. The applicable fee depends on the passenger’s travel dates.
EVA Air and UNI Air began charging US$33 per ticket in August for international trips departing from locations other than the Philippines and Hong Kong. China Airlines raised its booking service charge to US$30 on July 9, per CTEE.
