TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Evergreen Marine said Friday at a trade show that it has introduced containers with automated temperature controls.
The carrier said its 58,000 containers now have sensors that send temperature, humidity, and cargo status to a control center. It commented that quality control is not just about keeping goods refrigerated, but also monitoring them around-the-clock.
The carrier said the container will send a notification when there are temperature drifts, unauthorized access, or parts malfunctioning. It said that with alerts and metrics, management can keep track of cargo and equipment status, minimizing interruptions.
Smart containers are prioritized for high-value and perishable goods. The collected data can also be streamed to other parties such as customs to speed up clearance.
Around 8.7 million smart containers have been built or upgraded in 2026. It is estimated that over 30% of containers worldwide will be automated by 2027.
Evergreen Marine was founded in 1968 and is Taiwan's largest transnational carrier and seventh biggest worldwide. Its A-class freighters have the greatest known transport capacity.
