TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwanese businesses invested an extra NT$635 billion (US$20 billion) in the US following a first total of NT$1.11 trillion in May, Economics Minister Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫) said Wednesday.
He revealed the new total at the opening ceremony for the US Pavilion at Semicon Taiwan. The ministry noted that 20 semiconductor and AI server businesses announced investments in the US valued at a total of NT$1.11 trillion, per Liberty Times.
A more recent review saw the value as NT$1.75 trillion for the year so far, Kung said. The partnership between the semiconductor industries of Taiwan and the US is growing ever closer, he added.
Kung predicted that cooperation would expand from the semiconductor and AI server sectors to biotechnology and natural gas. The government will provide the necessary assistance to boost business ties between the two countries, according to the minister.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs said it was continuing to improve the domestic investment environment at the same time as businesses are investing directly in the US, Liberty Times reported. Enterprises from both countries will work together to build highly resilient supply chains, the ministry said.
