TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) said Wednesday the government will prepare land and factories to help semiconductor and tech firms start operations faster, CNA reported.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of Semicon Taiwan, Cho said the Cabinet has instructed the economics ministry and science council to prepare land and factory facilities. Ready-to-use sites would allow investors to start operations with fewer delays, he said.
Cho said rapid advances in artificial intelligence are driving closer international cooperation in high tech. He said the country must remain part of that development as governments and companies invest in the next generation of technology.
More than 4,300 exhibitors from over 60 countries are taking part in Semicon Taiwan, Cho said. The US, European Union, UK, and other governments have also set up national pavilions, showing growing international interest in the semiconductor industry.
Semiconductor output reached about NT$6.7 trillion (US$209.1 billion) in 2025, up 22.7% from a year earlier, Cho said. Growth has exceeded expectations as demand for advanced chips and AI technology continues to rise, he added.
TSMC and other major international companies are investing heavily in advanced manufacturing, packaging, and memory technology, Cho said. The government also plans to strengthen the equipment and materials sectors to expand the industry's role in global supply chains.
Cho said continued investment by major companies shows confidence in the local technology sector. Their expansion could create further opportunities as the global semiconductor market continues to grow.
The government is also promoting 10 major AI infrastructure projects that Cho said will support the semiconductor industry's development. The projects aim to advance technology, strengthen international links, and encourage new AI applications.
Cho said the government will estimate how much electricity demand will rise as AI-related industries expand. It will work to provide enough power while preparing other resources needed for future investment.
The government will focus on land, energy, workers, and financing to support expansion, Cho said.
