TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Madsen Cherubin, Haiti’s permanent representative to the World Trade Organization, and Harold Young, Belize’s permanent representative to the WTO and the UN, arrived in Taiwan on Monday for a five-day visit to hold talks with Taiwanese government officials.
During their trip, they will visit the Judicial Yuan, Ministry of Finance, Office of Trade Negotiations, and Taiwan International Cooperation Development Fund, according to the foreign ministry. They will also attend a luncheon hosted by Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi (陳明祺) and tour Taiwan’s technology companies to better understand the country’s development in trade, technology, and democracy.
Both Cherubin and Young have supported Taiwan at the WTO and hold pro-Taiwan positions since taking office, the foreign ministry said. It added that Haiti and Belize are steadfast diplomatic allies.
The foreign ministry said it hoped to deepen engagement and exchanges with both countries and work together toward mutual prosperity and shared benefits.
In July, Taiwan opened the Latin America and Caribbean Trade Office to enhance trade and investment with allies in the two regions. The office will facilitate imports of high-quality products from allied nations into Taiwan and promote Taiwanese products in those markets, according to the foreign ministry.
