TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s 205th Arsenal has established automated production lines for six key components of the military’s T112 combat rifle as it increases output of the new weapon.
The arsenal expects to supply tens of thousands of rifles over the next five years, with robotic arms and automated machinery now handling portions of the machining process, per CNA.
Private manufacturers supply accessories such as slings and stocks, while the arsenal keeps production of six critical T112 components in-house. These include the firing pin, upper and lower receivers, barrel, bolt mechanism, and bolt.
Most machinery on the new lines comes from Taiwan suppliers, although the arsenal imported its forging equipment. The six-component automation project was finished in 2025 with technical assistance from the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, per Radio Taiwan International.
A T112 bolt component is machined on five types of equipment before undergoing heat and surface treatment, while barrel production spans 11 stages. Robotic arms move workpieces between parts of the production line, and optical systems are used to check machining quality.
Military units receive the rifles only after they clear final testing. Officials said automation has increased production capacity while reducing manpower requirements.
The arsenal also plans to seek overseas orders when domestic demand leaves capacity available.
