TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Thai envoy in Taiwan Narong Boonsatheanwong visited the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau to discuss drug smuggling, online fraud, and the search for fugitives from the law.
The announcement Friday said Narong held talks with bureau chief Michael Chen (陳白立) the previous week, per Liberty Times. They first toured an anti-drugs exhibit to view the results of the bureau’s fight against smuggling.
Chen thanked Thailand for its longstanding cooperation on law enforcement issues. The bureau hoped the two sides could strengthen their exchange of information about criminal activities, he said.
In 2024, cooperation led to the discovery of 8.65 kilograms of amphetamines being smuggled from Thailand and to the repatriation of a fugitive hiding in Bangkok, the bureau said. In June last year, Thailand also repatriated a Taiwanese ketamine smuggler.
The discovery of 25 kg of heroin with a street value of NT$400 million (US$12.64 million) in April 2025 and the detention of a Thai worker picking up the drugs in Taiwan were another example of success, Chen said.
He added the bureau will continue its cooperation with the Thai representative office and with law enforcement in Thailand to combat cross-border crime.
