TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) on Friday offered condolences to victims of the deadly floods along the Nepal-Tibet border.
Lai said in an X post that he was sending his thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by the floods and mudslides, per CNA. He offered his deepest condolences to families who had lost loved ones.
Lai wished for recovery and reconstruction efforts in the affected areas to proceed safely and swiftly.
A flash flood swept through communities along the Nepal-China border on Wednesday after a glacier collapse sent a torrent of water, rock, ice, and mud through Himalayan valleys, per Reuters. It destroyed roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.
More than 390 people have been confirmed dead in Nepal and Tibet, and more than 1,400 were missing, according to the Associated Press.
