TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s benchmark stock index posted its fourth consecutive advance on Friday, ending the week above 46,000 points.
The Taiwan Stock Exchange Capitalization Weighted Index, or TAIEX, closed up 356.23 points, or 0.77%, at 46,331.45. Turnover totaled NT$1.02 trillion (US$32.3 billion), according to Taiwan Index Plus and CTEE.
For the week, the TAIEX gained 1,107.16 points, or 2.45%. The total market capitalization of listed companies stood at NT$151.45 trillion, according to the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
All of the market’s largest-weighted stocks ended higher. TSMC rose 0.41% to NT$2,420.
MediaTek climbed 3.1% to NT$2,985, while Foxconn added 0.4% to NT$253. Delta Electronics advanced 3.39% to NT$1,830, and ASE gained 2.64% to NT$621, according to Anue.
Among high-priced stocks, Wiwynn and Largan Precision both moved above NT$7,000. Cloud infrastructure provider Wiwynn climbed 5.65% to NT$7,200, reclaiming its position as the TAIEX’s third-highest-priced stock, according to CTEE.
Optical lens maker Largan rose 2.17% to NT$7,065 following Apple’s announcement of a product launch event scheduled for Sept. 9. Genius Electronic Optical hit its daily limit for a third consecutive session, closing at NT$917 and bringing its weekly gain to more than 40%.
Chipmakers moved higher. UMC hit its daily limit at NT$130, recording the session’s highest trading volume at 319,000 lots, equivalent to 319 million shares. Vanguard International Semiconductor and PSMC also advanced.
Passive component stocks continued their upward trend. Walsin Technology, Holy Stone Enterprise, and Nichidenbo all closed at daily limits.
Industry leader Yageo briefly reached the daily limit before finishing 7.57% higher. Honey Hope Honesty Enterprise, Kaimei Electronic, Taisol Electronics, Ta-I Technology, and Lelon Electronics also posted gains.
The passive component sector has benefited from growing demand for high-end multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) and high-performance inductors, as AI servers require more power. TrendForce expects the MLCC market to strengthen in the fourth quarter, while Samsung Electro-Mechanics has raised prices for some products by up to 30%.
Financial stocks supported the broader market. Mega Financial Holding led the sector, closing 4.44% higher at NT$48.2. Fubon Financial Holding, Hua Nan Financial Holdings, Cathay Financial Holdings, and Yuanta Financial Holding all finished in positive territory.
Analysts said the market started the week cautiously as investors awaited Nvidia’s earnings report and several major market events. As uncertainty eased and the index continued to climb, investors who had been waiting on the sidelines gradually returned to the market, contributing to higher trading activity, according to CTEE.
Trading volume increased each day from Monday but remained moderate, pointing to an orderly return of funds and stable market positioning. The steady rise in trading volume was viewed as more supportive of further gains than a sudden spike in turnover.
Looking ahead to September, analysts said the market had already gone through a period of consolidation, with short-term holdings gradually settling. Funds are expected to increasingly favor companies with solid growth prospects for the fourth quarter and next year.
