TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — India hopes to expand semiconductor cooperation with Taiwan, while Taiwanese businesses are calling for a more favorable investment environment, CNA reported Thursday.
Speaking to CNA, Taiwan Business Association in India Chair Chen Mu-teng (陳木騰) said Indian companies showed strong interest in working with Taiwanese businesses. He said policy stability, however, remains a key concern for companies investing in India.
Chen advised local companies to start with trade and learn more about Indian policies before making major investments. He said this could reduce the risks of building factories in the country too quickly.
Chen also urged India to improve its investment environment. He called for faster visa processing and better infrastructure, including roads.
Madhya Pradesh Principal Secretary for Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion John Kingsly said Taiwan has strengths in electronics, semiconductor manufacturing, and precision manufacturing. India offers a large market and a skilled workforce, particularly in information technology, he said.
Kingsly said combining Taiwan's tech with India's workforce could create growth opportunities for both sides. Companies could also use India as a base for global expansion, he said, per CTS News.
Kingsly said Madhya Pradesh offers support for foreign investors through a single-window approval system. He said the state hopes to attract more Taiwanese companies.
Taiwan Representative to India Chen Mu-min (陳牧民) said economic ties have grown rapidly in recent years. Bilateral trade has reached record levels, while investment in India has increased, he said, per Economic Daily News.
Taiwan External Trade Development Council Chair James Huang (黃志芳) said economic ties have moved beyond trade toward closer supply chain cooperation. He said India is seeking more support from Taiwan as it develops its semiconductor and high-tech industries.
