TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Chipmaker Vanguard International Semiconductor Corp. (VIS) said Friday that a fire at its plant in Taoyuan had no significant impact on production operations.
A fire was reported on the rooftop of the company’s Fab 3 at 11:28 p.m. Thursday and was extinguished about 40 minutes later. More than 200 employees were evacuated from the facility, and no injuries were reported, according to CTEE and Epoch Times.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Staff have returned after the site was deemed safe.
VIS said its essential utilities and power systems were not affected, while most production equipment continued to operate normally. An initial assessment found no significant impact on manufacturing activities.
However, some air pollution control systems and related components were damaged in the incident. The company expects the affected systems to resume operations this week after reconnection work is completed.
VIS is a specialized wafer foundry focused on mature-node manufacturing, with TSMC as its largest shareholder. Wafer foundry services account for about 95% of the company’s revenue, according to MoneyDJ and Stockfeel.
