TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Largan Precision Co. on Tuesday announced its fourth property purchase this year as it prepares to expand production capacity for its optical communications business.
The lens maker plans to spend NT$3.08 billion (US$96.8 million) on about 20,800 square meters of land and 23,319 square meters of building space in Taichung’s Nantun District. The four property purchases announced this year total about NT$5.65 billion.
Market analysts said Largan’s continued investment reflects growing confidence in demand for its fiber array (FA) products. The company announced its expansion into the optical communications market last year to diversify beyond its traditional camera lens business.
Earlier this year, Largan obtained mass-production specifications for FA products from its first co-packaged optics customer. FA units connect chips to fiber cables, allowing data to move between chips and other systems through light-based signals rather than electrical signals.
Largan completed sample deliveries in July, with the customer expected to accelerate testing. The company plans to complete its first automated pilot production line by the end of the third quarter, which will serve as a model for future mass-production lines.
Mass-production lines are currently targeted to be ready by mid-2027. Successful customer testing could bring the start of mass production forward to as early as the end of this year.
Meanwhile, Largan’s smartphone camera lens business is expected to benefit from the traditional peak season in the second half of the year. Analysts expect the company’s results to improve quarter by quarter through the remainder of 2026 as iPhone lens shipments enter their seasonal peak.
