TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Tainan City Government said the city’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.3% in the first half of 2026, per a city press release.
At a city government meeting, the Labor Department presented statistics from its 2026 job fair report. The department said that in addition to the 3.3% unemployment rate, labor force participation reached 61%, higher than the national average of 59.5%.
Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said the department has organized job fairs to help residents secure employment. He added that besides attracting investment, the city should extend its outreach to seniors and people looking to return to the workforce.
Huang also said there should be more digital services such as remote interviews and AI-assisted mock interviews, aided by personalized advice from career counselors. He noted that these tools should be introduced at employment service locations for older workers and smaller recruitment events.
The department said it held 49 large job fairs from December 2018 through August 2026, with 3,000 companies offering 176,000 vacancies and nearly 50,000 people participating. It also organized more than 2,200 smaller job-matching events.
The department said that in August alone, two large fairs featured 185 employers offering 9,637 jobs, with the initial match rate exceeding 50%. It added that the fair offered additional services such as resume reviews, transportation, and on-site interpretation.
