TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. will add 176 trains from Sept. 24-29 to meet increased demand during the four-day Mid-Autumn Festival and Teachers’ Day holiday.
The six-day holiday travel period will include 70 additional southbound trains and 106 northbound trains, bringing the total number of services to 1,150, per CTS News. Tickets for all trains during the period will go on sale at midnight Thursday.
The railway advised passengers to reserve seats and collect tickets in advance to avoid queues at stations. Passengers who complete the ticketing process before arriving can proceed directly to the platforms.
Each train during the travel period will have between two and nine cars designated for non-reserved seating, CTS News reported. Passengers using non-reserved seating can check the station’s passenger information display system for the number of available cars and plan their boarding route accordingly.
The railway said 13 trains will have only cars 11 and 12 designated for non-reserved seating, with some arriving at their final destinations after midnight. The trains will arrive at their terminal stations, either Zuoying or Nangang, as late as 12:59 a.m. the following day.
It will continue working with LINE TODAY during the holiday travel period to provide estimated waiting times for non-reserved seating, per UDN. Passengers can check the Taiwan High Speed Rail website, the T-EX mobile ticketing app, or LINE TODAY’s Lifestyle channel for estimated waiting times at each station and choose green-coded periods to avoid peak crowds.
