TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Quintain Steel launched a large-scale energy-storage system Monday, marking the firm’s expansion into smart energy, per a Tainan City Government press release.
The city said traditional industries have adapted to meet industry trends. It said Quintain Steel’s investment is an example of industrial transformation combined with advances in energy infrastructure.
Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said traditional industries such as steel, machinery, and petrochemicals laid the foundation for Taiwan’s economic development. Quintain Steel’s expansion into energy storage showed how Tainan’s traditional industries were continuing to adapt as semiconductor, AI, and smart-manufacturing industries grew, he said.
Huang noted that the Southern Taiwan Science Park’s Tainan campus generated nearly NT$3 trillion (US$94 billion) in output in 2025.
Economic Development Bureau Director-General Chang Ting-yuan (張婷媛) said the system is more than a battery, as it supports the grid by charging during off-peak hours and discharging during peak periods.
She added that the system can discharge continuously for at least three hours at full power and is Tainan’s largest grid-connected energy-storage installation.
Quintain Steel Chair Wang Chen-tse (汪振澤) said the two-year project is the company’s biggest investment in its 53-year history, per the Commercial Times. The system uses Delta Electronics equipment, including a liquid-cooled power-conditioning system, and has 24-hour monitoring.
