TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan will spend NT$2.47 billion (US$77.52 million) through 2029 on student tablets, AI-ready computers, and school facilities, Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said Thursday.
Speaking at a conference for senior high, junior high, and elementary school principals ahead of the new school year, Huang said the city will expand the use of digital tools and AI in classrooms. He said Tainan will also continue improving school facilities, CNA reported.
The city will train teachers to use AI in their lessons and use learning-platform data to track student progress. Teachers can use the data to adjust instruction for students with different needs and help narrow learning gaps.
Tainan will also fund every school to upgrade at least one computer classroom with machines capable of running AI applications. Schools will develop technology programs based on their needs, including robotics and drones.
Other courses will cover media literacy, evaluating online information, digital communication, English, and international exchanges. The city said the programs are intended to strengthen students' technology and communication skills.
School improvement projects will include covered sports courts with solar panels, classroom air conditioning, and energy storage systems. Huang said the projects are aimed at improving both learning conditions and teaching quality.
