TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan Power Co. shared at a press conference on Tuesday best practices for air conditioners, according to a press release.
Taipower said that setting the air conditioner to breeze reduces the amount of compressed air entering the room, taking longer to cool down, with added stress on the compressor. It suggests turning it to auto or beginning with a stronger output for faster cooling.
The utility recommends setting the conditioner to sleep mode so that when users sleep, the temperature will increase 1 to 2 C, keeping residents comfortable. It noted that the dehumidification function consumes more electricity than a standalone dehumidifier.
Taipower added that inverter air conditioners should be turned off when away for extended periods of time. Taipower suggests placing a circulation fan beneath the air vent facing the center of the room.
Taipower said that unstable voltage has nothing to do with an air conditioner underperforming, as air conditioners cannot start if there are power problems. Taipower recommends that users clean their air filters and schedule maintenance when necessary.
Taipower said the most energy-efficient method is setting the thermostat to 26 to 28 C paired with a fan, with air filters cleaned every 2 to 3 weeks to prevent dust and lint from blocking airflow. Taipower also suggests choosing products with an energy efficiency rating of 1 to save the most power.
Separately, Taipower said that residential users saved a total of 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours in 2025, which equals the annual usage volume for 500,000 households, while reducing 840,0000 metric tons in carbon emissions.
