TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The foreign and agriculture ministries have opened applications for this year’s Young Agricultural Ambassadors Program.
The program will select 16 Taiwanese aged 18 to 45 with expertise in agriculture and animal husbandry to travel to the Netherlands for an eight-day program consisting of field visits and in-depth exchanges, according to the foreign ministry. Applications are open through Sept. 6, and young professionals from all areas of agriculture are encouraged to apply.
Launched in 2017, the exchange program has selected more than 100 agricultural professionals to visit countries including the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, India, and Australia under Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy.
Beginning this year, the program will incorporate elements of the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project and expand to include like-minded countries and diplomatic allies, the foreign ministry said.
The Netherlands is the program’s first European destination, the foreign ministry said. Through exchanges between Taiwan’s young farmers and representatives from the Dutch agricultural industry, government, and academia, the program aims to strengthen cooperation and connections between Taiwan and the Netherlands.
The two sides will cooperate in areas including floriculture and livestock farming, while laying a stronger foundation for Taiwan’s agricultural diplomacy, the ministry added.
