TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Chunghwa Telecom announced on Friday that its rural outreach in Miaoli taught seniors about smartphones, AI, digital content creation, social media, and how to spot fraud in Sanwan Township, according to a Chunghwa Telecom press release.
Miaoli Branch General Manager Wu Lin-yan (吳林炎), Sanwan Elementary School Principal Chen Mei-chun (陳美君), and Township Council Chair Chiu Teng-sen (邱騰森) attended the event.
Wu said the initiative began in April to provide seniors with hands-on training in 5G, fraud recognition, AI content creation, mobile payments, and social media. He noted that the trainees have managed to document and market the local culture on social media as well as protect themselves online, demonstrating increased confidence and improved digital literacy.
The principal and council chair acknowledged Chunghwa's rooted interest and investment. They said the program addressed trainees' everyday needs and has mobilized the community for a positive objective.
Chen also announced that the community learning center is upgrading its facilities with help from the Ministry of Education and Chungwa Telecom to transform it into a test site for generational digital learning. The center is scheduled to open in October, and similar projects will be expanded to other communities.
Chiu said it will continue to educate rural communities on the latest tech. Chiu noted that by kindling seniors' interest in the convenience and joys of technology, communities will become more resilient and happier places.
