TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Deputy Legislative Speaker Johnny Chiang (江啟臣) will lead 13 legislators to Japan on Aug. 24 to attend the Asian Pacific Parliamentarians’ Union (APPU) 54th General Assembly and 88th Council Meeting.
This year’s theme focuses on inter-parliamentary cooperation to maintain a free and open economic order and strengthen regional supply chain resilience, CNA reported. The two meetings will both be held at the House of Representatives First Members' Office Building in Tokyo from Aug. 24 to 26. The three-day agenda includes five formal sessions and two banquet events.
KMT Legislators Wang Yu-min (王育敏), Lin Szu-ming (林思銘), Huang Jen (黃仁), Hung Meng-kai (洪孟楷), Cheng Cheng-chien (鄭正鈐), and Tu Chuan-chi (涂權吉) will join the delegation. DPP legislators include Chiu Chih-wei (邱志偉), Lin Shu-fen (林淑芬), Chen Kuan-ting (陳冠廷), Lin Chu-yin (林楚茵), Lo Mei-ling (羅美玲), and Kuo Yu-ching (郭昱晴). Taiwan hosted the APPU’s 53rd General Assembly last year from Aug. 27 to 29, during which eight resolutions were adopted, including three proposals put forward by Taiwan.
One of them called on APPU member states to participate in the “Indo-Pacific Marine Debris Cooperation Platform” initiative to promote regional sustainability and security.
