TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) called an end to 10 days and nine nights of Han Kuang 42 military drills Friday with a promise to speed up the development of drones.
The aim is to build up a more complete and resilient defense supply chain, he said in a Facebook post. The government will continue to strengthen defense through speedier research and development, manufacturing, and use of advanced systems, he added.
Lai said Taiwan will combine its advantages in information and communication technologies, semiconductors, and precision manufacturing. As a result, industry will supply the military with even better equipment and contribute to the further growth of the country’s competitive defense sector, he said.
The Aug. 5-14 Han Kuang 42 drills are over, but steps to strengthen the nation’s defenses and the resilience of society will not stop, Lai said. The government will stand by the military to protect the nation’s free and democratic way of life, the president concluded.
