TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Navy and Coast Guard Administration staged a joint drill on Thursday to test their capabilities to counter a Chinese blockade.
The exercise aimed to strengthen interagency coordination and response, as well as maritime defense resilience, to maintain the security of sea lines of communication, Military News Agency reported.
Navy and Coast Guard ships rushed to escort the Yushan-class landing platform dock, which simulated a merchant vessel carrying critical supplies, per MNA. The ships also conducted maritime security operations.
Yungfeng-class ships were tasked with opening a safe passage and guiding the merchant vessel into a key port. The relevant operational area then carried out transfer operations for the simulated supplies.
The Navy Command said cooperation with the Coast Guard continues to deepen. From gray-zone response and littoral strike missions to escort missions, both agencies regularly coordinate and validate capabilities.
The command added that both are dedicated to safeguarding the security and uninterrupted flow of Taiwan’s sea lines of communication.
