TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — CyCraft Technology Corp. and Phison Electronics Corp. are teaming up to develop security solutions for sovereign AI as demand grows among governments and regulated industries, CTEE reported Thursday.
The companies recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement, with CyCraft also planning to establish a subsidiary focused on sovereign AI security. Phison will evaluate a strategic investment in the new company.
Sovereign AI refers to developing and operating AI using locally controlled infrastructure, data, and resources, giving governments and other organizations greater control over their AI systems. For governments, this can include training AI models on local languages to create systems that reflect national needs and values, according to Business Next.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) said in 2024 that governments would drive the next wave of AI development as countries recognize the need to build their own AI capabilities. As more organizations develop and deploy such systems, CyCraft said security risks are becoming an increasingly important consideration.
These risks include prompt injection attacks that can expose sensitive data, jailbreaks that can manipulate AI models into carrying out prohibited actions, and poisoned training data that can lead to inaccurate decisions. CyCraft noted that most existing AI security solutions are designed for cloud environments.
The partnership aims to build security protections directly into AI systems from the outset. Under the agreement, CyCraft and Phison will integrate and validate their technologies on Phison's platforms.
For CyCraft, the partnership could also open a new business model, allowing its AI security products to become part of AI infrastructure rather than being sold separately. This could allow the company's business to grow alongside shipments of Phison's AI platforms.
