TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Business sales in New Taipei rose from NT$4.96 trillion (US$153.4 billion) in 2018 to NT$7.9 trillion in 2025, according to an eight-year economic review presented Wednesday.
Investment tied to 327 city-backed projects totaled NT$777.5 billion over the eight years. New Taipei attributed more than 122,000 jobs to those projects, per Liberty Times.
New Taipei Economic Development Department Director Sheng Hsiao-jung (盛筱蓉) said the city had used one-stop investment services and dedicated project assistance to help companies overcome investment barriers.
New Taipei cited major semiconductor investment as part of its industrial growth, including about NT$30 billion from ASML for a Linkou facility. Nanya Technology is also developing advanced manufacturing processes in the city, per UDN.
The city said its industrial-land policies had helped unlock NT$139.1 billion in investment across 68 approved projects by July. New Taipei has also offered development incentives aimed at bringing more company headquarters and shared or innovation-focused facilities into industrial areas.
New Taipei expects the Baogao Smart Industrial Park expansion to generate about NT$18.3 billion in annual output. The second phase is slated to start construction by year’s end and involves more than NT$30 billion in development spending.
Mayor Hou You-yi (侯友宜) led a trade delegation to Chicago in June and said the city has generated NT$452 million in potential business opportunities. A Saudi Arabia trade mission is planned for late August, followed by a drone industry exhibition and forum in late September.
The city also said it has spent more than NT$7 billion upgrading traditional markets and aims to complete 30 market upgrades by the end of the decade.
