TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Defense Minister Wellington Koo (顧立雄) reviewed drone operations and battlefield maintenance on Tuesday as the military conducted live-fire exercises, according to the defense ministry's press release.
Koo visited units in Taoyuan during the Han Kuang 42 live-fire drills, where he observed drones used for battlefield surveillance, intelligence relay, and attacks. He examined how 3D-printing could be used to produce emergency replacement parts and support field repairs.
Koo was accompanied by Vice Minister for Policy Hsu Szu-chien (徐斯儉) and senior military officials as he received briefings from the operational area and drone units. He watched troops operate several types of unmanned aircraft and discussed plans for layered defense and wartime transportation controls.
Koo said drone warfare should be planned according to the surroundings and mission-specific requirements. He called for the flexible use of varied weapons and equipment to improve rapid response and precision attacks.
The defense minister also said units should use 3D printing and forward production to create a dispersed and sustainable maintenance system. He added that repeated testing during exercises would help strengthen resilience and combat effectiveness.
Koo later visited air force units to review their combat capabilities.
