TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan defeated Thailand 22-0 on Wednesday to complete a perfect run through Group B at the U12 Asian Baseball Championship in Hangzhou, China.
Taiwan dominated from the start, collecting 19 hits and scoring 12 runs in the bottom of the second inning. The team's batters consistently reached base and produced multiple hits and runs throughout the game. Taiwan added nine more hits in the fourth inning to complete the victory and end the game early under the tournament's run-rule provisions, per UDN.
The victory gave Taiwan its third consecutive win and secured first place in Group B, sending it to the tournament's super round. The super round features the top two teams from each group.
Taiwan opened the tournament with a 23-1 victory over Hong Kong before edging South Korea 3-1 in its second game. Taiwan's first super-round game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday against the top team from Group A.
Japan and China are both 2-0 in Group A and are scheduled to face each other Wednesday night to determine the group winner. The tournament will also determine three qualifiers for the 2027 WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup, which Taiwan will host, although dates and other details have yet to be announced, according to a World Baseball Softball Confederation press release.
