TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Migrant workers will be able to receive a free health check at Taipei Main Station on Sunday, the Taipei City Department of Labor said Tuesday.
The event will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the lobby on the first floor, per CNA. The capital counts about 50,000 migrant workers, with 74% hailing from Indonesia and most of them employed as caregivers.
In contrast to other cities and counties, most migrant workers in Taipei do not work in factories where health checks can be conducted on a regular basis, officials said. Taipei Main Station is easy to reach, with workers employed outside of Taipei also welcome to join the activity, the city department said.
Migrant workers showing up on Sunday need to present proof of legal employment in Taiwan to register for the tests. The first 20 participants who complete the tests will receive a 15-minute free massage, CNA reported.
The health checks will cover a wide variety of potential health problems, with attention focusing on vision and hearing issues. A team from National Taiwan University Hospital will provide advice about occupational hazards and labor rights, the report said.
