TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Penghu County conducted an urban resilience exercise on Tuesday.
At 1:30 p.m., air-raid sirens sounded, and people were required to take shelter in nearby air-raid facilities. Military police, police, and civil defense personnel were present to assist the public, Liberty Times reported.
Officials conducted inspections at three locations: the Magong Port Administration Building, the Pailien PX Mart, and the Penghu Branch of the National Taxation Bureau. The port represented a public transportation facility operated by the Kaohsiung Port Authority, while the PX Mart represented a daily-service facility. The tax office represented a government agency, according to Liberty Times.
Penghu Deputy Magistrate Lin Chieh-hsing (林皆興) and exercise supervisor Colonel Chin Wen-hsiang (秦文祥) received a briefing before visiting the three sites. The exercise was designed to assess air-raid response measures at each site and evaluate the public’s preparedness for emergency evacuation.
Lin said the drill was held in conjunction with the Han Kuang military exercise to establish defense mechanisms and strengthen preparedness so that people become familiar with evacuation procedures in the event of a disaster or crisis.
