TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Fifth Theater Command conducted an anti-airborne assault drill on Tuesday as part of the military’s Han Kuang 42 live-troop exercise.
The command first simulated reports from special forces soldiers observing enemy activity and requesting fire support, Liberty Times reported. Units quickly identified the strength of enemy special forces and their landing coordinates using reconnaissance drones and later carried out drone strikes.
Following fire allocation by the Joint Firepower Coordination Center, psychological operations (psyops) broadcast vehicles and CM-34 infantry fighting vehicles were dispatched to the objective area, Liberty Times said.
The psyops vehicles broadcast deterrent messages to undermine the enemy’s will to fight. Meanwhile, troops dismounted from the infantry fighting vehicles to conduct clearing operations and engage the enemy.
The realistic drill aimed to sharpen troops’ combat skills and tactical application, as well as strengthen engagement procedures and defensive combat concepts, per Liberty Times.
