TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Chunghwa Telecom announced Monday that a drone food delivery service had launched in Chiayi County as part of a project testing commercial drone deliveries.
The company said it worked with DotDot Global, the Metal Industries Research and Development Centre, AeroVironment Taiwan, and Chunghwa System Integration on the project, CNA reported. It said the partners created a test zone in Chiayi County for drone delivery operations.
The firm said the service operates in Taibao and Puzi. It said the drone food delivery service was publicly demonstrated at the 2026 Chiayi County Drone Day event, per CTEE.
The firm said the system combines 5G communications, a smart logistics platform, drone route management, and AI. It said its 5G network and logistics platform automate parts of the delivery process.
The firm said previous drone logistics projects in Taiwan mainly focused on supplying remote areas, public demonstrations, or one-time flight tests. The Chiayi project instead uses fixed daily delivery routes to test whether drones can operate continuously under normal commercial conditions.
The firm said the project had completed nearly 1,200 deliveries. The drones had logged about 120 flight hours and traveled a total of 1,100 km, according to Economic Daily News.
The firm said it also built what it described as Taiwan’s first 5G aerial corridor for drones. The network supports live video, flight control, and remote monitoring during operations.
The firm said its research division also developed technology that allows one operator to monitor several delivery drones at the same time. It said the system could improve efficiency and support wider commercial use of drone delivery services, per UDN.
