TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Godwin Friday has departed for a visit to Taiwan.
In a Facebook post, Friday announced that he was leading a delegation to Taiwan to discuss “investment, economic cooperation, and areas that can support growth and job creation at home.” He noted that this year marks 45 years of diplomatic ties between Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Taiwan.
“I look forward to a productive week of engagements focused on building on the longstanding friendship between our two countries and creating new opportunities for our people,” he added.
The delegation comprises Attorney General Louise Mitchell, Foreign Minister Dwight Fitzgerald Bramble, Ambassador for Finance, Climate and Investment Kevin Hope, and other personnel. Taiwan's Ambassador to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Fiona Huei-Chun Fan (范慧君) is also accompanying Friday on his trip.
Friday’s New Democratic Party won the general election in November, ending 24 years of Unity Labour Party prime ministers. Fan congratulated Friday following his victory.
Friday’s visit comes two weeks after Taiwan opened its new Latin America and Caribbean Trade Office to enhance trade and investment with the two regions. Taiwan’s foreign ministry said it aimed to use the office to facilitate imports of high-quality products from allied nations into Taiwan and promote Taiwanese products in those markets.
The office will deepen Taiwan’s economic and trade partnerships with its allies in Latin America and the Caribbean, it added.
