TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipower said Saturday it has stepped up typhoon preparations as Typhoon Dolphin approaches Taiwan from the northwest.
Taipower said its Matsu office began typhoon preparations on Thursday, including inspections of power facilities and preventive tree trimming, per CNA. It will also activate a cross-regional support mechanism as needed to minimize the impact of outages.
The company said the Central Weather Administration has issued a strong-wind advisory, with winds of level 8 or higher possible in many areas as the typhoon’s outer circulation affects Taiwan. Flying debris such as construction tarps and metal sheets can become caught in power equipment, causing short circuits and outages, it explained.
Taipower urged the public to secure signs and billboards and remove hanging objects before conditions worsen. For flood-prone basements, Taipower recommended installing flood barriers or using sandbags to prevent water from entering.
Facilities that cannot afford power outages, such as pumping stations, and users who rely on life-support equipment should prepare generators in advance, it said.
Taipower said those affected by typhoon-related outages can report them or check restoration updates through its website or its 1911 customer service hotline.
