TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Central Weather Administration issued sea warnings for the waters north of Taiwan on Friday afternoon as Typhoon Dolphin approaches from the east.
Dolphin was 680 km east-northeast of Taipei as of 2 p.m. and is moving west at 11 kph. Forecasters said the storm will likely be 430 km east-northeast of Taipei by 2 p.m. Saturday.
Sustained winds near Dolphin's eye are 144 kph, with gusts up to 180 kph. Before the typhoon approaches, Yilan and Hualien are likely to see temperatures of 38 C Friday, Liberty Times reported.
Weather experts warned of strong waves taller than three meters along the north and east coast Friday, per UDN. Wave heights on Saturday along the north coast could reach six meters, the Central Weather Administration said.
If Typhoon Dolphin changes course to veer closer to Taiwan, land warnings for parts of Keelung and New Taipei could be possible Saturday afternoon, according to a CNA report. The storm was expected to make landfall in China on Monday.
