TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – US-based Shield AI said Wednesday that it completed a joint search mission with National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology.
According to Shield AI's press release its Hivemind software coordinated three NCSIST Mighty Hornet III drones, with each assigned a search area while respecting a no-fly zone. Shield AI added that one unit navigated around a partial no-fly zone.
Shield AI President Brandon Tseng said that autonomy is paramount to piloting large numbers of drones. Tseng noted that helping Taiwan to develop AI pilots would significantly enhance the nation's defensive capabilities.
NCSIST President Li Shih-chiang (李世強) said that Shield AI's technical expertise has helped the institute to operate Hivemind independently. Li added that the three-month-long integration to successful demonstration has paved the way for further cooperation.
Shield AI’s Hivemind powers platforms including F-16 jets and is deployed in operations across the US, Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific. NCSIST develops weapons like the Mighty Hornet III, which can be readily deployed and retrieved without ground installations.
