TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) expressed gratitude to the US Congress for supporting Taiwan on Wednesday.
During a meeting with US Representative Michael McCaul, Han said Congress has maintained bipartisan support for Taiwan over the years and helped Taiwan strengthen its self-defense capabilities through concrete actions, according to the Legislative Yuan. Its support has helped uphold peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region, Han said.
The speaker also thanked McCaul for his contributions to strengthening Taiwan-US relations.
Han said the Legislative Yuan is advancing drone legislation and expressed hope that Taiwan and the US will deepen cooperation in areas including drones, advanced technologies, and supply chain resilience. He pointed out that the Legislative Yuan completed reviews of the national defense special act and special budget in May.
McCaul arrived in Taiwan on Sunday for talks with top government officials. He also delivered a keynote speech at the Ketagalan Forum, reaffirming that US policy toward Taiwan remains unchanged. He pledged that US arms sales to Taiwan would continue.
On Tuesday, McCaul received the Order of Brilliant Star with Special Grand Cordon from President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) for his efforts to bolster the Taiwan-US partnership.
