TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office said Wednesday it has indicted the operators of All Good Gene’s Kombucha on charges including fraud and selling counterfeit food products.
Prosecutors said a husband and wife, surnamed Chung (鍾) and Lin (林), operated the company and instructed employees to remove expiration dates from kombucha cans with solvent before printing new dates and selling the products, per CNA. They allegedly relabeled cans that did not meet customers’ shelf-life requirements or had already expired.
The office also alleged the company used expired flavorings, concentrated juices, and fruit and flower extracts in several kombucha products. Expired “apple pie” kombucha was allegedly rebottled into champagne-style bottles and sold under different product names, generating NT$2.75 million (US$85,000) in illegal profits, prosecutors said.
Investigators searched the company in April, seizing a coding machine, solvent, expired ingredients, and relabeled products as evidence. Chung was released on NT$1 million bail and Lin on NT$300,000 bail after questioning, per UDN.
Prosecutors accused Chung of breaking food safety regulations for financial gain. They asked the court to impose a heavy sentence.
