TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – EVA Air will launch direct flights between Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and Delhi on Dec. 1, reports said Wednesday.
The company will be the only Taiwanese airline maintaining direct flights between the two countries, per Liberty Times. The service will feature five flights a week per Airbus A330-300, CNA reported.
As a fellow member of the Star Alliance, Air India will provide connecting flights to a wide range of destinations across the subcontinent.
EVA Air CEO Clay Sun (孫嘉明) mentioned the expansion of Taiwanese tech firms including Foxconn Technology, MediaTek, Delta Electronics, and Wistron in India as arguments in favor of the new route. Effective business travel and strengthening international trade links are key elements of EVA’s strategy, he said.
Passengers arriving from India in Taoyuan can board one of EVA’s 10 connecting direct flights to travel onward to North America, Sun said. The services are practical for business travelers, academics, students, and families visiting relatives, according to Sun. He also hoped travelers from India could take half-day visa-free tours of Taiwan during their transit, per Liberty Times.
