TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Intellectual Property Office said Wednesday that green trademark applications accounted for 14.1% of all filings in Taiwan between 2016 and 2025.
The office said about one in every seven trademark applications included environmentally friendly elements, per CNA. Green trademarks cover nine categories, including transportation, recycling, and climate change.
Energy conservation ranked as the largest category, accounting for 32.34% of green trademark applications, followed by pollution control at 25.69% and energy products at 19.79%.
The office said climate change-related trademark applications remain a smaller category at 5.47%, but filings increased more than 150% between 2024 and 2025. It said the growth reflects rising corporate focus on climate strategies amid global net-zero efforts.
Taiwanese applicants accounted for 76% of green trademark applications, the highest share among all countries. The office said the figure shows local industries are developing green branding and intellectual property strategies to support sustainability efforts.
Uni-President Enterprises, which operates 7-Eleven Taiwan, ranked first among applicants with 2,274 green trademark filings, followed by Apple with 811 and Nintendo with 263, per Liberty Times. The office said companies should identify green elements in their products and services early and use trademarks to strengthen their competitiveness in global markets.
