TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Even though Typhoon Dolphin is expected to pass over Okinawa, it could bring torrential rain to northern Taiwan and lead to sea warnings, reports said Wednesday.
The typhoon was situated 1,680 kilometers east of Taiwan Wednesday morning, and moving west at a speed of 19 kph. Forecasters said it was most likely to pass over Okinawa, though its extensive size will cause heavy rain in the northern part of the country from Friday through Sunday, per UDN.
Sea warnings for the area north of Taiwan are possible from Friday afternoon depending on Dolphin's path. Another tropical storm, Kujira, formed Wednesday morning west of the Philippines.
Weather experts predicted it would move northeast over the island of Luzon before weakening into a tropical depression. While it is not expected to impact Taiwan, it could merge with Typhoon Dolphin.
Further east over the Pacific, Tropical Depression TD16 is likely to turn into Tropical Storm Chan-hom Thursday before heading toward Japan next week, UDN reported.
