TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Education Minister Cheng Ying-yao (鄭英耀) on Tuesday urged high schools to use AI while strengthening students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Speaking at a national meeting for high school and special education principals in Yilan County, Cheng said schools should adopt AI and digital tools in teaching. He added that these tools must help students build critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-directed learning skills.
Cheng said rapid advances in AI and changes in global education make basic educational goals even more important. Schools should help students develop strong character as well as knowledge of democracy, law, the humanities, information technology, and critical thinking.
He encouraged high schools to use AI and digital technology in their courses and teaching. Cheng said the tools should improve students’ motivation to learn while helping them think independently, solve problems, and learn on their own.
Cheng also encouraged students to explore new ideas and learn through hands-on experience. He said schools should prepare students to use technology effectively rather than depend on it.
CNA reported that the education ministry said the meeting gives schools a platform to exchange views on education policies and teaching experience. It hopes schools will use AI and digital tools to improve teaching, classroom management, and administration while strengthening students’ digital literacy, cross-disciplinary skills, and resilience.
