TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s benchmark stock index held above 43,000 points Monday, recovering from an early decline as buying returned to the market.
The Taiwan Stock Exchange Capitalization Weighted Index fell in early trading after TSMC came under pressure. It later turned higher, gaining more than 660 points at one point, before ending up 266.66 points, or 0.62%, at 43,386.41, according to Taiwan Index Plus and CTEE.
Turnover totaled NT$844.5 billion (US$26 billion). The total market capitalization of listed companies stood at NT$141.7 trillion, according to the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
Among the index’s most heavily weighted stocks, TSMC was unable to support the broader market, ending down 2.27% at NT$2,370. However, MediaTek and ASE helped lift the index, with both reaching their daily limits at NT$3,910 and NT$610, respectively, according to Anue.
Delta Electronics fell 3.66% to NT$1,580, while Foxconn gained 1% to NT$253.
The highest-priced stocks on the TAIEX, Aspeed Technology and King Slide Works, both hit their daily limits, closing at NT$15,975 and NT$8,635, respectively. Other companies with share prices above NT$1,000, including Wiwynn, MPI, Global Unichip, PharmaEssentia, and Universal Microwave Technology, also finished at their daily limits.
Lite-On Technology reached its daily limit after reporting record second-quarter profits. The company also announced a NT$1.1 billion investment in Singapore’s DenseLight Semiconductors to strengthen its optical components portfolio for co-packaged optics applications, according to CTEE.
L&K Engineering gained 8.2% as investors focused on its semiconductor factory construction projects and large order backlog. The company, which provides integrated engineering and electromechanical system solutions, currently has orders on hand worth NT$440.1 billion, according to CTEE.
Elite Material rose 4.95% after its M9 copper-clad laminate products entered mass production in the third quarter. Market analysts expect its business outlook to continue improving in the second half of the year, according to MoneyDJ.
Buying also focused on memory, passive component, robotics, and upstream printed circuit board material suppliers. Investors shifted toward small- and mid-cap stocks on expectations that activity in electronic components and AI server markets would remain steady.
Memory stocks including Winbond Electronics, Nanya Technology, Elite Semiconductor Microelectronics Technology, Macronix International, Walton Advanced Engineering, and Etron Technology all reached their daily limits.
Passive component makers Yageo, Walsin Technology, Taiwan Chinsan Electronic Industrial, Nichidenbo, Honey Hope Honesty Enterprise, and Prosperity Dielectrics hit their daily limits. The sector was supported by inventory replenishment from AI servers and high-end consumer electronics, which has improved orders for products such as multilayer ceramic capacitors and sensors, according to Sinotrade.
Robotics and automation-related stocks also moved higher as major US technology companies increased investment in robotic platforms featuring visual recognition and precision control technologies. Chieftek Precision and Solomon Technology both reached their daily limits, while Hiwin Technologies gained 9.03%.
Co-packaged optics-related stocks moved higher, with Ezconn, Elite Advanced Laser, Browave, LuxNet, and LandMark Optoelectronics all reaching their daily limits. Co-packaged optics is a technology that uses light-based signals to transmit data by integrating optical components with semiconductor chips, helping improve transmission speed and efficiency.
Tourism and leisure stocks weakened after seasonal peak factors had been reflected in valuations, while financial holding companies faced capital outflows. Cathay Financial Holding fell 0.99%, Fubon Financial Holding declined 0.38%, and CTBC Financial Holding dropped 0.15%.
The TAIEX has gained for two consecutive sessions, while margin financing balances, or money borrowed by investors to buy stocks, have declined significantly. Analysts said this indicates market positioning has become more stable and reduces pressure for another short-term decline, according to CTEE.
However, the market’s upward momentum was interrupted by a major correction in July. With trading volume remaining lower, analysts said a rapid recovery to previous highs is unlikely, and the market may require more time for consolidation and the formation of a stronger base.
