TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Starlux Airlines Chair Chang Kuo-wei (張國煒) piloted the company’s first flight to Prague on Saturday.
The service is the airline’s first flight to a European destination. Barcelona will be up next, with Starlux becoming the first Taiwanese airline to offer direct flights to Spain, per Liberty Times.
Starlux CEO Glenn Chai (翟健華) and Czech envoy in Taiwan David Steinke also participated in the launch ceremony at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. The Czech Republic is not only a popular tourist destination, but also plays a key role in the reorganization of supply chains, with Taiwanese businesses paying more attention to the country, Chai said.
Starlux organized a “Prague Plaza” at the airport where travelers could take selfies with scenery from the Czech capital and a picture of pop star Jolin Tsai (蔡依林) in the background. Passengers on the inaugural flight received a mini-disc with a Tsai song.
As he arrived wearing a pilot’s uniform, Chang was mobbed by passengers looking for an autograph and a picture with the Starlux chair, the Liberty Times reported. The Taoyuan-Prague service starts with three flights a week, with a fourth flight to be added from Oct. 1.
