TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Former Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin will make her first visit to Taiwan and deliver a keynote speech at the Ketagalan Forum on Tuesday.
CNA reported that the foreign ministry and Taiwan Institute of Economic Research will hold the annual security forum at Grand Hyatt Taipei. The event will bring together 12 political leaders, lawmakers, scholars, and experts from nine countries.
Eswatini Prime Minister Russell Dlamini and US Representative Michael McCaul will deliver the opening keynote speeches. Former Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland will give a luncheon speech.
Marin will deliver a keynote address in the afternoon. The ministry has not announced the subject of her speech.
Participants will discuss how democratic societies can respond to security threats and strengthen regional defense cooperation. They will also examine ways to build supply chains that rely less on China.
The ministry said the forum would also discuss concerns about China’s Ethnic Unity and Progress Promotion Law. Taiwan said the law could be used to pressure critics and extend Beijing’s control beyond China’s borders.
