TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan Stock Exchange and Chunghwa Telecom signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday to build a remote data center in Taichung.
The facility is slated for completion in 2029. The new build is a response to growing operational concerns with increasing trading volume, cybersecurity, and extreme weather.
Financial Securities Commissioner Peng Jin-lung presided over the signing by TWSE Chair Sherman Lin (林修銘) and Chunghwa Telecom Chairman Alex C.C. Chien (簡志誠). The center is expected to strengthen transaction efficiency and improve cybersecurity resilience.
TWSE said that it is working to transform Taiwan into Asia's NASDAQ, as complemented by AI and its position as a key hub in the global semiconductor supply chain. TWSE added that, with increasing foreign investment and an ever-changing financial ecosystem, it is committed to ongoing infrastructure upgrades to ensure reliable services.
Chunghwa Telecom said that as Taiwan's largest telecommunications services provider, it has decades-long experience in building first-rate data centers. Chunghwa Telecom added that the remote backup data center initiative will be equipped with the latest system and fastest online connectivity to process requests with minimal delay.
The center is a testament to Chunghwa Telecom's telecommunications capabilities as well as proof that Taiwan's IT infrastructure is on a par with other developed countries. The center is not only a transitional upgrade of hardware and software, but an important milestone in bridging Taiwan's financial market with the rest of the world.
