TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — TSMC entered the Fortune Global 500’s top 100 companies for the first time as AI-driven demand lifted technology and semiconductor firms.
Fortune’s ranking showed technology and semiconductor companies benefiting from the AI boom, with TSMC climbing 44 spots to No. 82, per CNA. The chipmaker, which supplies major customers including Apple and Nvidia, was joined in the top 100 by Chinese tech giant Tencent, which rose 19 places to No. 97.
Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Wistron posted the biggest improvement among companies on this year’s list, jumping 298 places to No. 198, CNA reported. Other Taiwanese companies also remained on the list, including Foxconn, Quanta Computer, and Pegatron.
The ranking, which measures the world’s largest companies by revenue, reflects how AI is reshaping industries and accelerating growth among firms involved in advanced chips, cloud services, and digital platforms.
According to Fortune, Global 500 companies generated a combined US$43.1 trillion (NT$1.4 quadrillion) in revenue last year, up 3.2% from the previous year, and recorded record total profit of NT$110.06 trillion.
Amazon ranked as the world’s largest company by revenue, ending Walmart’s 12-year run at the top. AI-related companies saw major gains, with Nvidia rising 38 places to No. 28 and TSMC climbing 44 spots to No. 82.
Beyond technology, healthcare giant McKesson entered the top 10 at No. 7.
