TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thursday it would suspend most visa applications from Moroccan nationals seeking to enter Taiwan, except in specially approved cases, effective immediately.
CNA reported that the ministry described the restriction as a reciprocal response to Morocco’s suspension of visa services for Taiwanese travelers. It urged Morocco to restore the services and ensure convenient travel for businesspeople and tourists.
Morocco’s embassy in Japan informed travel agencies in Taiwan last Thursday that it had stopped accepting applications for visa confirmation letters from Taiwanese nationals. The foreign ministry later confirmed that Morocco had instructed its embassies and consulates worldwide to suspend the service.
Taiwanese passport holders cannot apply for Morocco’s electronic visas and need confirmation letters before obtaining visas for short business or tourism visits. The ministry said Morocco’s sudden decision had created travel barriers and disrupted exchanges between the two sides.
Taiwanese travelers who received valid confirmation letters before July 20 may still use them to enter Morocco before they expire. The foreign ministry said it would continue to monitor Morocco’s visa policy and adjust Taiwan’s measures when necessary.
