TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Belize Minister of State for Economic Transformation Osmond Martinez said Taiwan was Belize’s most important and trusted partner, CNA reported Wednesday.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Martinez is leading a four-member delegation on a Monday-Friday visit to Taiwan. Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi (陳明祺) hosted the group at a lunch Wednesday to discuss economic cooperation and development projects.
Martinez thanked Taiwan for supporting Belize’s development in several areas over many years. He said the two countries should deepen cooperation in trade, investment, and sustainable development.
Chen praised Martinez’s efforts to strengthen Belize’s economy and improve government finances. He cited the use of blue bonds, which raise money for marine conservation and sustainable ocean projects.
Chen said Taiwan and Belize have built their 37-year relationship on freedom, democracy, and human rights. He also thanked Belize for consistently supporting Taiwan’s participation in international organizations.
Both sides plan to expand cooperation in public health, professional training, smart agriculture, electric buses, sustainable tourism, and carbon credit programs. They also discussed financial cooperation and new opportunities for companies from both countries.
Officials examined possible projects involving the Central American Bank for Economic Integration and other development financing programs. Representatives from Taiwan’s finance, environment, agriculture, development, and trade agencies attended the meeting.
