TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Power Co. is launching a drone training program Wednesday in partnership with Taichung Municipal Dajia Industrial Senior High School to train future technicians for power infrastructure maintenance.
Taipower Vice President Tsai Chih-meng (蔡志孟) and school Principal Yang Jen-sheng (楊仁聖) signed the agreement. Taipower said the collaboration will use the school’s newly unveiled Drone Technology Education Center to combine traditional electrical coursework with hands-on drone operations.
Taipower said it has integrated drones across its power generation, transmission, and distribution operations to help technicians inspect facilities in hazardous terrain and accelerate repairs. Drones can survey hard-to-access areas and transmit real-time images to help crews prioritize post-disaster repairs.
Taipower said its AI-assisted drones have been deployed inside power plants to examine boiler tubes for cracks and corrosion, improving maintenance and helping keep power units in optimal operating condition. The company said drone operation is increasingly important to keeping power utilities and critical infrastructure functional.
Students must complete selected courses and earn a basic drone competency certificate before graduation. Taipower will award the top 10 students NT$6,000 (US$185) scholarships each semester, with 10 students eligible for full-time employment after training.
Taipower has partnered with vocational schools since 2015 as part of its talent training initiative. The company said it will continue these partnerships and integrate smart technology applications to train job-ready workers.
